Scientific tests and evaluations always include a standard deviation and/or margin of error. The idea is to get test data with a small enough margin of error to give a valid comparison metric. If the components are the same factory pieces, then you have to account for manufacturing variations. If the components are fundamentally different (larger valves, reworked heads), then the best you can do is partial system package flow comparisons. Either way the test is valid and meaningful, assuming full disclosure of test parameters.
